The Man Cave brotherhood together on a mountain overlook in autumn
Community. Love. Purpose.

The Man Cave

A brotherhood for men of color and Indigenous men. Live and virtual every week. A room where we put the armor down, tell the truth, and get back to work on ourselves, together.

The room

Most men carry it alone. You don't have to.

Men of color and Indigenous men are taught early to hold the weight quietly: for family, for work, for everyone watching. The Man Cave is the place where that weight gets named out loud, among men who understand it without needing it explained.

Each week we gather in the Cave. We check in with the body, not just the mind. We speak from the chest, listen without fixing, and hold each other to what we said we would do. No performance. No posturing. Just brothers doing the inner work.

About TMC

A room built by brothers, for brothers.

The Man Cave is a weekly, membership-based brotherhood for men of color and Indigenous men. It exists so no man has to do his inner work alone.

A group of men embracing in a cabin
Why it exists

Strength was never meant to be carried alone.

Men of color and Indigenous men are taught early to hold the weight quietly: for family, for work, for everyone watching. Over time that silence costs us our health, our relationships, and our sense of who we really are.

The Man Cave is the place where that weight gets named out loud, among men who understand it without needing it explained. We check in with the body, not just the mind. We speak from the chest, listen without fixing, and hold each other to what we said we would do.

The room is shaped by somatic practice and breathwork, and by a simple belief: I'm not the leader. We all are. Every man who sits in the Cave helps hold it.

Who it's for

Built for the man who is ready to be seen.

This room is for you if

  • You are a man of color or an Indigenous man who is tired of carrying everything alone.
  • You want brothers who will call you higher, not just agree with you.
  • You are willing to feel what is underneath before you act on it.
  • You can show up weekly and keep what is shared inside the room.

It is not the right fit if

  • You are in crisis and need clinical care right now.
  • You plan to never participate.
  • Confidentiality is something you would treat lightly.

Why coaching with Smit

Once a month, you get a breakthrough. Twice a month, you become the man who lives it.

A man listening closely during a session

The Mountain Membership is for the man ready to go further. You get everything in the Cave plus two 60-minute 1:1 sessions with me each month: the breakthrough, two weeks to live it, then a return to refine it before old patterns take over.

Brotherhood around you, and someone in your corner holding you to the man you're becoming.

TMC Standards & Agreements

How we hold the room.

Every man in The Man Cave agrees to these five standards. They are what make the room safe enough to be honest in.

A TMC coin engraved Community, Love, Purpose, Est. 2023
  1. 01

    Be fully present

Be present with your speaking, your listening, and your being.

  2. 02

    Lead with your truth

    Remove the mask. No performances.

  3. “The biggest shift was realizing I didn’t have to perform. I could just be honest.”
    TMC member
  4. 03

    Confidentiality

Honor what is shared by the other men in the community. What's learned here leaves here, and what's shared here stays here.

  5. 04

    Empathy & safety

Own your role in creating an environment that is safe, accepting, and empathetic to the community.

  6. 05

    We have fun too

This is a space for connection, community, and exploration, and with that, we remember not to take it to the point where it destroys us from the inside out.

Questions

Before you walk in.

The things men usually ask before their first week in the Cave.

Three men smiling while sharing with the group
Is this therapy?

No. The Cave is a brotherhood: a space for connection, community, and exploration. It is not coaching, therapy, or consulting, and it is not a replacement for clinical or mental health care. Men who want private coaching can add it through Mountain Membership.

Where do we meet?

Online. The Tuesday gathering and the Friday Tending to Our Temple call are both live and virtual, so you can join from anywhere. The retreat is when we gather in person.

What actually happens on a Tuesday?

We open with breath and a body check-in, move into an open floor where men bring what is real, and close with commitments. You speak when you are ready. Nobody is put on the spot.

What's the difference between Cave and Mountain?

Cave is the weekly brotherhood, month to month. Mountain includes everything in Cave plus two 60-minute 1:1 coaching sessions with Smit each month, on a 6-month agreement.

“There was no pressure to have the right answer. That made it easier to finally say what was actually going on.”
TMC member
Why is it only for men of color and Indigenous men?

We don't sit around and talk about the color of our skin. We do the same deep work any men's group does. The difference is that this is a sacred space for men of color and Indigenous men, where you never have to explain or translate your experience before you can go deep. A separate virtual men's group open to all men is being planned.

What if I miss a week?

Life happens. The room holds your seat. Members who stay consistent tend to get the most from it, so we ask for your best effort at showing up.

When is the next retreat?

The next date is coming soon. Cave and Mountain members hear first and get early bird pricing.

I know a man who needs this. Can I send him?

Yes, please. Brotherhood grows through trust. Send him to this site and have him mention your name on the contact form.
